This weekend, you can’t miss the Carnival party par excellence in Vilanova de Arousa, the Momo. This is one of the most multitudinous celebrations in the region and, this year, it aims to exceed 20,000 people.
The Momo will be held on Sunday, 3 March
After its postponement last weekend due to bad weather, this Sunday, March 3rd, you will be able to enjoy the traditional Momo party, one of the great Carnival events of O Salnés.
This celebration, which puts an end to the region’s “Entroido” (Carnival), will be animated by the Turtilla Du Ribés band from 11 am. From 5 p.m. onwards, the parade will begin, with the participation of Xacobe Pérez, Isi and David Amor, who will continue to add a touch of humour to this great festival that is celebrated in our region every year.
In the parade, there will be colourful and striking floats that will accompany the Momo, the Giant Sardine and the Carnival Queen, to the rhythm of Carnival bands. It is at that moment when the identity of the Momo will be revealed, unknown until then and, as always, it will represent a relevant character of this year.
Vilanova de Arousa will celebrate the “Enterro do Momo” (Momo’s Burial), an event that constitutes the final point of the Entroido of this municipality of Mar de Santiago and, to finish the event, after the “queima do Momo” (burning of the Momo), locals and visitors will be able to continue celebrating along with musical entertainment.
The Traders’ Association organises a Discount Fair
This year, as a novelty, it will be possible to enjoy in the urban centre, a local commerce discount fair organised by the Association of Traders of Vilanova. This is the first time that it has been held to coincide with the Momo festival, and the traders will be looking to sell seasonal stock from their warehouses, taking advantage of the large number of visitors that this event generates.
In this discount fair there will be around a dozen stalls, especially of textile and footwear, which will be installed in the Julio Camba School, in the surroundings of Praza do Concello and will be held this weekend from 10 am to 8 pm.
This weekend, say goodbye to the Carnival in Mar de Santiago and take the opportunity to get to know our territory in one of the most amusing festivals in Vilanova de Arousa. We are waiting for you!
