Vilanova de Arousa
The playwright and author Ramón del Valle-Inclán is the illustrious local resident that will accompany us on a magical trip to Vilanova de Arousa, fishing town and one of Galicia’s main mussel-producing areas under the protected designation of origin (PDO) “Mexillón de Galicia.” This coastal region characterised by beaches of calm water and golden sand, with the Ría de Arousa
always on the horizon, also features exceptional natural habitats, such as Monte Lobeiro –where we can enjoy wonderful views of the surroundings– and historical remains. All of this makes visiting Vilanova a must if we want to become acquainted with the Mar de Santiago area.

As Sinas beach
Another of the most renowned beaches in Vilanova and the Rías Baixas region. It is a long, narrow beach, about 3 kilometres long, with its own carpark and surrounded by numerous establishments. There, apart from enjoying a nice swim, it is possible to contemplate a fantastic view of the entire Ría de Arousa and this fishing town’s mussel-producing platforms.
Port of Mar de Santiago
The Mar de Santiago maritime station marks the beginning of our own Original Camino. The boats depart from here and sail along the sea-river route as far as Pontecesures. In this port you can also see the activity of many of the municipality’s fishing boats that fish in the “ria” (estuary). Its installations also house Vilanova de Arousa’s tourist information office.
