Catoira is a municipality located in the province of Pontevedra, in northwest Spain (Galicia). Erected on the banks of the Ulla River, very close to where it flows into Ría de Arousa, its history has always been linked to that of its towers, a fort designed to protect Santiago de Compostela’s treasures during the Middle Ages.
Airport
The airport closest to Catoira is that of Santiago de Compostela (Rosalía de Castro – Lavacolla), located just over half an hour from the municipality (52 kilometres) via the AP-9 motorway.
Public transport
The municipality of Catoira has its own train station, where trains regularly stop on the Vigo – Pontevedra – Vilagarcía de Arousa – Santiago de Compostela – A Coruña line, in both directions. There is no ticket office in the station, but you can get one from the inspector on board the train.
By car
Catoira is easy to reach by car. You can do so via the AP-9 motorway, taking the exit in Padrón, which links directly with the AG¬-11 (Barbanza) dual carriageway, in which the municipality has its own exit. You can also come via the N-550 national road, which links with the municipalities of Pontecesures and Valga.
