Pedras Miúdas Lagoon

It was originally a quarry that, after it was closed, left a huge hole in the ground. It gradually filled up with the water from several underground springs, resulting in the present-day lagoon.
It is a beautiful natural space that has been regenerated in a natural way. It was enhanced a few years ago with the construction of an environmental centre, an extensive carpark and a leisure area, as well as trails and footbridges in order to explore the area safely and enjoy the scenery.
Both the council and the residents fought for years to close the quarry and obtain protected status for the area, which was declared a Local Protection Area.
