The river that meanders through the Ulla Valley delimits the region of Carolina Otero, better known as La Bella Otero, a singer, actress and iconic figure of the Belle Époque. Natural gems such as the Parafita and Raxoi waterfalls and waterwheels, with natural freshwater pools, the pretty river park in the town centre and attractions
such as the Vilarello river park or the double-arm windmills at the Beiro viewpoint, make this municipality a green paradise in the centre of Pontevedra province. A region of eau-de-vies and eels, Valga is also the birthplace of the historian and researcher Xesús Ferro Couselo, who was the featured author on the Day of Galician Letters in 1996.

Mina Mercedes Lagoon
This large lagoon, with an area of more than 3 hectares and a depth of 20 metres, was formed when the hole created by a local clay-extraction company was filled due to natural means. It has gradually become a beautiful wetland visited, every year, by numerous species of migratory birds. It is also the idea place for a pleasant stroll along the trail surrounding the lake.
Local Eau-de-Vie and Eel Festival
Although the eel is one of the Ulla River’s least known food products, it is undoubtedly worth trying. Valga holds an eel festival in the last weekend of August. It also features music and traditional games, as well as a festival promoting local eau-de-vie, which is made in all the municipality’s parishes and is considered one of the best-quality ones in all Galicia.
