Mar de Santiago wins over the public at Fairway, the 4th Forum on the Camino de Santiago, which was held from November 7 to 9 in the Galician Congress and Exhibition Hall. The numerous visitors showed great interest in discovering this new destination, as well as the different tourist products in the municipalities of Vilanova de Arousa, Catoira, Valga and Pontecesures.
Mar de Santiago was promoted as the origin of the different Caminos, offering a supplementary experience to the Jacobean Routes. Delegates were thereby encouraged to follow the itinerary of the “Traslatio,” discovering a region featuring nature, culture, history and cuisine.
Sailing along the world’s only maritime Way of the Cross was what caught the visitors’ attention the most, as regards both professionals and the general public. In this regard, many of the queries that were made at Mar de Santiago’s stand in Fairway were related to the timetable and year-long availability of these trips along the Ulla River. With departures from both Pontecesures and Vilanova de Arousa, these trips enable pilgrims and tourists to discover the area from a different perspective, sailing along the Ulla River and exploring natural beauty spots. All of this accompanied by the “cruceiros” (stone crosses) that make this a unique itinerary of great historical and cultural interest.
Fairway, the 4th Forum on the Camino de Santiago, also facilitated, by means of its Workshop section, several meetings with national and international tour operators. An ideal occasion for promoting a new destination, which can provide a supplementary experience to the Santiago pilgrimage by sailing to the origin.
