Valga is a Galician municipality located in the province of Pontevedra, on the banks of the Ulla River. This municipality is famous for its eels, a food product par excellence, and for making local eau-de-view, considered among the best in Galicia. It is also the birthplace of La Bella Otero, one of the most famous singers and actresses of France’s Belle Époque.
The closest airport to Valga is that of Santiago de Compostela (Rosalía de Castro – Lavacolla), located about 25 minutes (40 kilometres) from the municipality via the AP-9 motorway, with exits in Padrón or Carracedo.
Although Valga does not have its own train or bus station, Pontecesures’ train stop is very nearby, just 5 minutes from the town centre.
In addition to the N-550 national road, which links Valga with the Mar de Santiago route’s other municipalities, you can also reach this locality via the AP-9 motorway and the AG-11 (Barbanza) dual carriageway, both of which have exits in Padrón, which is less than 10 minutes by car.
